About the Place
Welcome to Devin's Fish & Chips, a culinary gem tucked away at 747 St Nicholas Ave, New York, NY. For nearly three decades, this beloved establishment has been delighting the local community with its delectable seafood offerings, and the passionate reviews from loyal patrons tell the story well.
At Devin's, you’ll find a diverse menu that pays homage to traditional fish and chips while integrating unique elements typical of the vibrant Harlem culinary scene. From their crispy fried catfish to the succulent grilled salmon steaks, each dish embodies a commitment to quality and flavor. While some visitors might have mixed feelings about the signature fries—affectionately dubbed "chips"—many others rave about the freshness of the seafood and the delightful sides, including tostones and fresh vegetables like asparagus.
One standout feature is Devin’s longevity in the community, which speaks volumes. Customers, like Lynn E. Brice, fondly recall the restaurant's beginnings and the unforgettable steamed crab legs that made Devin's a destination for seafood lovers. New discoveries await patrons, as Uche Polanco recently pointed out; the fish plate offered here is one of the best in the city, a testament to their dedication to satisfying diners' cravings.
Dianne Simmons beautifully expresses the essence of Devin's with her reflection on their uncomplicated yet superior cuisine, emphasizing the welcoming and helpful staff who ensure every visit exceeds expectations. As R. Brath experienced recently, sometimes life can lead you away, but there's nothing quite like the nostalgia of a cherished dish to bring you back home.
For those seeking a taste of heartwarming, meticulously prepared seafood, look no further than Devin's Fish & Chips. Whether you're a seasoned regular or a curious first-timer, prepare yourself for a dining experience that combines tradition with a hint of creativity—all served with a smile.

“ Could kick myself ! Moved out of Harlem and then life happened. Met with a client last week and they ordered from Devins! I had forgotten how great their food is and will ONLY get my fix here! Getting dressed to their now!!!! ”
“ Good fried catfish and shrimp. I was not a fan of their fries or "chips" as they call them - they leave the potato skin on them. I wouldn't have ordered them if I knew. The selection for sides wasn't the usual, they offer tostones, and some vegetables like asparagus. Decent price for the food, will return but remember not to get the chips. ”
“ Devin's Fish & Chips spot on St. Nicholas Ave has been serving the community for nearly 3 decades. I've know I've been a customer since the late 1990s. Devin's was very popular when they first opened because they had a steamer. Steamed snow crab⁰ legs and okra were my favorites with pink lemonade. Also, the grilled salmon steaks with steamed okra & fresh cut fries with the skin on it. Still a family bznz and a staple in Hamilton Heights,Harlem! It's a small world indeed. I found out over 2 decades ago, we attended junior high school with the siblings back in the 1970s. I recognized one of the sisters and asked if she had a brother, Willie. She said, "Yes, I do. " We chatted for a while.. I'm happy that they chose to stay in bznz despite the changes & gentrification thisv neighborhood has endured over the decades. Congratulations fam@ ”
“ Pressed for time, my husband asked if I could find a spot that was open late that served seafood and vegetables. I eventually landed upon this place, and my goodness - do you have a loyal customer in me! Let me just say that this is the BEST fish plate I’ve had in the city. Bar none. I’ve lived in NYC for nearly 15 years, and Devin’s Fish and Chips did not disappoint. Somehow, the food travelled so well, and my apartment is not close by. I ordered the salmon steak, fried okra, and sweet plantains. WOW. First of all, the portions were generous. Secondly, the salmon was cooked to *perfection*! Not overcooked, and it had the perfect amount of fat. The char on the salmon skin and the seasoning? FLAWLESS. My husband hates salmon skin, and this was the first time he didn’t share it and ate it himself! The bit of lemon on the salmon was perfect as well. The fried okra was CRISPY. As in, the food was in transit for at least 20 mins. and was STILL extremely crispy. Perfect blend of texture - crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. The sweet plantains were thick and gently sweet - somehow, they had barely any oil on them, and I couldn’t even process how they were able to do that! I typically like my plantain on the sweeter side, so I am going to go in person and see if they have even riper plantains. Regardless, I devoured every last bit of my plate. My husband ordered the salmon steak with fried okra and green beans. I tasted some of his green beans and was so pleasantly surprised! They were slightly crunchy and had a bit of sweetness to them - almost balsamic. So, so good. My goodness, I am *still* dreaming about this food. Not to mention, we also ordered a fish sandwich and we were too full to eat it! But I saved it for lunch and will also go in person to review it properly. From the food portions to the condiments, this place is generous, and that’s such a rare trait these days in the restaurant industry. For that, and for the incredible quality of their food, they have more than earned my business. ”
“ i went there last season but the flavors stay with me. The employees exceeded what we imagined. I appreciate dishes without unnecessary complications. This place serves plainly superior cuisine. I'll definitely come again. ”
